St. Croix Diving
St. Croix is atop a ridge that is not far from the edge of the continental shelf drop off. Offshore, and beneath the surface, you will find wall dives that start in 30 feet of water, then plunge thousands of feet beyond safe diving depths (13,200 ft).  Dives that begin in shallow reefs and plummet to virtually bottomless abysses make the most amazing underwater experiences.

“The 4000 year old... ...bank barrier reef of St. Croix is one of the best developed reef systems in the tropical Atlantic Caribbean area and is the most extensive reef on the Puerto Rico-Virgin Islands shelf.” (Adey et al., 1981).

St. Croix boasts the largest living reef of any Caribbean island as it is almost completely surrounded by a barrier reef. Most diving on St. Croix is done along the north and west shores near Carambola Beach Resort. The Island Conservation Effort (ICE) is a non-profit organization that maintains 52 moored dive sites along those shores. This reduces the need for dive boats to anchor and risk damaging the reef.

Attracting divers from all over the world, the Island is the largest of the US. Virgin Islands at approximately 20 miles long, by 7 miles wide.
